In the absence of adequate medical personnel in near proximity to the workplace; OSHA requires that a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid.

Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available. Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use (29 CFR 1910.151).
First aid refers to medical attention that is usually administered immediately after the injury occurs. It consists of a one-time, short term treatment and requires minimal technology and training to administer. First-Aid can include cleaning cuts, treating burns; applying bandages and dressings; the use of non-prescription medicine; draining blisters; removing debris from the eyes; massage; and drinking fluids to relieve heat stress. OSHA's revised record keeping rule, which went into effect January 1, 2002, does not require first aid cases to be documented.  Basic first-aid kits should be in every workplace and appropriate quantities should be met according to how many people are in the workplace at a given time.

Some more serious cases in need of emergency response may require more technology and training when someone is in a life threatening condition.
The ZOLL AED Plus by ZOLL Medical is a versatile and easy choice for anyone looking for an intuitively designed and reliable automated external defibrillator (AED). Introduced by Zoll in 2001, this model immediately filled a gap in the AED market for untrained and trained rescuers alike.
