Black Box Safety Inc.
Introduction
At Black Box Safety Inc., protecting people is our business — and protecting the planet is our responsibility. We integrate environmentally responsible and socially conscious practices into everything we do. From reducing emissions to supporting our diverse workforce, our goal is to build a safer, more sustainable future for employees, customers, and communities alike.
Environmental Sustainability
Lowering Our Carbon Footprint
We actively reduce greenhouse gas emissions by prioritizing remote work and virtual collaboration. This approach minimizes employee commuting and business travel, cutting thousands of vehicle miles each year. Every avoided commute helps lower our carbon impact and sets an example of sustainable work practices.
Our 3,600-square-foot San Diego office consumes an estimated 48,960 kWh of electricity annually and roughly 935 therms of natural gas, resulting in about 14.5 metric tons of CO₂e emissions from operations (Scopes 1 and 2). Commuting emissions can range from 4.6 to 23.1 metric tons CO₂e depending on how frequently employees are on-site. By encouraging hybrid schedules and supporting virtual meetings, we already keep these emissions on the lower end.
Path to Net Zero
We have a clear roadmap to reach net-zero carbon impact:
- Immediately: We are enrolling in 100% renewable electricity through local utility programs. Combined with high-quality offsets for our natural gas use and residual commuting emissions, this allows us to achieve net-zero (market-based) today.
- 12–24 Months: We plan to electrify our heating systems and further expand hybrid work and electric-vehicle commuting incentives. This will structurally remove nearly all Scope 1 and 2 emissions without the need for offsets.
- Ongoing: We will maintain remote work flexibility, invest in energy-efficient equipment, and annually offset any remaining emissions.
Paperless and Circular Operations
To conserve natural resources, we store and manage documents securely on the cloud, drastically reducing paper consumption. We also take responsibility for the full lifecycle of our products. Approximately 50% of the items we sell are recycled at the end of their service life, and we are working to increase that percentage to 70% by 2027.
Social Responsibility
A Diverse, Inclusive Workforce
We are proud of the people behind Black Box Safety Inc. Our team is 54% female and 46% male, with 13% identifying as disabled veterans. Diversity and inclusion make us stronger, enrich our culture, and drive better decision-making. We are committed to continuing to recruit, support, and develop a workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
Employee Engagement and Well-Being
By offering flexible work options, we support employees in achieving work-life balance while reducing their environmental footprint. We encourage all team members to participate in sustainability initiatives, from recycling programs to remote collaboration tools.

Sustainable Procurement
Our procurement policies favor energy-efficient equipment, electric HVAC systems, low-carbon logistics partners, and suppliers who share our ESG values.
