Micro-Cide 3% Glutaraldehyde Disinfectant 28 HLD MICROCIDE1
DESCRIPTION:
Micro-Cide 28 HLD is a 3% glutaraldehyde solution with attached powder activator. Once activated, Micro-Cide 28 HLD can be used for 28 days to provide high level disinfection or sterilization, providing the solution is above the 1.8% minimum effective concentration and is used according to directions for use.
• Provides a way to effectively sterilize or achieve high level disinfection of heat sensitive reusable medical devices.
• Achieves high level disinfection of instruments in 25 minutes providing
directions for use are followed.
• Sterilizes instruments in 10 hours providing directions for use are followed.
CHEMISTRY:
Micro-Cide 28 HLD is a virtually surfactant-free, free rinsing activated glutaraldehyde liquid chemical sterilant and high-level disinfectant. Its active ingredient is glutaraldehyde in a nominal concentration of 3%. When the powdered activator is added, the solution turns green in color to indicate its readiness for use. In addition to the active ingredient, this ready-to-use solution contains buffers, wetting agents, a rust and corrosion inhibitor and a pleasant fragrance.
MICROBIOLOGY:
Micro-Cide 28 HLD produces high-level disinfection at room temperature in as little time as 25 minutes and complete sterilization in 10 hours at room temperature.
Representative microorganisms tested include:
Bacterial Spores
- Bacillus subtillus
- Clostridium sporogenes
Vegetative Bacteria
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Salmonella cholerasuis
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Mycobacteria
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (var:BCG bovis)
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (smegmatis)
Viruses
- Herpes simplex virus Type I
- Poliovirus Type I
- HIV-1 (Associated with AIDS)
Fungi
- Trichophyton mentagrophytes
- Aspergillis Niger
CLINICAL / IN-USE STUDIES:
Reprocessing flexible fiber endoscopes in-use studies supports the effectiveness of Micro-Cide 28 HLD in actual use. (ASTM 1518-94 protocol). In addition, a simulated use-test was conducted to support the contact condition for high-level disinfection of endoscopes at 25°C at 25 minutes. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of Micro-Cide 28 HLD to kill M.Terrae dried on flexible fiber endoscopes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What test strips do you recommend to ensure the MEC is at necessary level for reuse?
Micro-Cide 28 HLD 3% Glutaraldehyde may be reused for a maximum of 28 days provided the minimum effective concentration of 1.8% Glutaraldehyde, time and temperature are maintained. Micro-MEC 1.8% Glutaraldehyde Monitor Strip* should be used before each use of Micro-Cide 28 HLD 3% Glutaraldehyde solution to determine the glutaraldehyde concentration is above the minimum effective concentration of 1.8%.
Do not use beyond 28 days even if the concentration of Glutaraldehyde is above the minimum effective concentration (1.8%) as indicated by the Micro-MEC 1.8% Glutaraldehyde Monitor Strip*. See the Package Insert for additional instructions and information regarding the reuse of Micro-Cide 28 HLD 3% Glutaraldehyde.
*Micro-MEC is a trademark of Micro-Scientific, LLC. The Micro-MEC 1.8% Glutaraldehyde Monitor Strip has been verified for use with Micro-Cide 28 HLD 3% Glutaraldehyde solution and provides a “margin of safety” above the Minimum Effective Concentration of 1.8%.
