SCORE Mentoring: Business Advice from Experienced Mentors
The early stages of a small business start up can be especially difficult for entrepreneurs that don't don't know how or where to start. When conducting a quick google search for free small business resources we found SCORE, The Service Corps of Retired Executives, and immediately signed up for a mentor.
SCORE is a nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of free services to both established, and start-up businesses including:
- Confidential business mentoring with entrepreneurial experts
- Webinars and interactive workshops
- Online resources
- Local workshops and events
When we were connected with our mentor, Joe Folsom provided a thorough review of our business plan and encouraged us in any and every way possible. He helped us to identify the gaps in our strategies and held me accountable. Joe was someone who I could check in with in order to keep me on track. He encouraged me to look outside of just Veteran Affairs, and to think in terms of a bigger and broader client-base.
Joe was willing to go above the call of duty. He was flexible to meet at convenient locations and was very sincere in his desire to help.
Our advice to anyone thinking about or in the process of starting their own business is to take all the free SBA and SCORE classes that you can and sign up for a SCORE mentor.
